About Us

Savina Salazar

is the inspiration behind Savina's Homemade Tamales Co. LLC.

Savina Salazar Was a Brave woman that Birthed 19 Children, by the age of 40, with 2 Sets of Twins.  in Her Early Years she Learned how to Travel to the U.S Several Times in the Back of the train wagons, she once told the story  " We would get in and put a stick strong enough so the wagon would not close all the way and leave them trapped in, in  case that wagon was released they would be able to get out. once inside they would count time and the stops it would make after that they would jump out and continue to their destination... They did this often, As Time passed She then Fell in Love and Settled and formed her family In a Small Town Called Tuxpan Nayarit Place where she was Born . It was until 1979 Tired of the difficulties and a Tough Relationship with a Family of 11, She Decided to Cross the Border and see what the Future would bring out. the rest of her children had already Grown up.  Savina had already experienced the life in the U.S SINCE she had come to the U.S. as a single mother previously  and had explored many times  Savina wanted her children to have a good life.

She Knew it was gonna be tough since  she was illiterate, she didn't know how to write or read English nor Spanish. she had to face many challenges, another one was not knowing how to drive, so she had to walk to most places.  Savina joined a religious Christian congregation where she Teamed up with a gentlemen there and harvested strawberries Zucchini Chilis and other vegetables.  This was a very hard labor for her since she also had to take care of her little ones the youngest were her set of Twins age 5, she had to think of a way to raise her children without leaving them behind, she then began talking to another Lady From the Congregation and offered her to show her how to make tamales. Savina being a fast learner learned the basics of making tamales. she started to offer them to small groups of people and began making a few sales,  After learning the crafting of tamales   Savina changed her recipe and improved the flavors to grow her sales. Savina even taught herself how to drive and obtained her driver's license so she could make tamales deliveries. Savina became fondly known as "The Tamale Lady" and her sales continued to grow and her children started to help with sales as she aged. She did this for 42 Years.

After 42 Long Years of Hard Work, In 2019, Savina Decided It Was Time To pass on The Business And She  supported her Youngest daughter Milca, By Sharing her Recepie and Knowledge in starting her own small business, Milca and her Husband took over and started Making and selling the tamales on their own, By Using the recipe and tradition that her Mother Taught Her.  Milca honored her mother  Savina, by naming her business, Savina's Homemade Tamales,

Even though Savina isn't here with us today to celebrate where Savina's Homemade Tamales has become, she is the inspiration behind the business and is reason why we are who we are today at Savina's Homemade Tamales.

With out her Knowledge and expertise we wouldn't of made it this far... We Luv u MOM... Above and Beyond.. She Left us too Soon and Unexpectantly  Feb 14, 2020
